Breaking Down the Brand: CeraVe
If you’ve been around here for a little while, you’ve probably caught on that CeraVe is one of my top favorite skincare brands. Their everyday, OG cleansers and moisturizers are staples in my routine recommendations. But, if you’ve strolled the aisles of Target recently, you may find yourself a bit confused and overwhelmed by the wide array of what I call “fancy” products.
Acne. Anti-Aging. CeraVe is no fool. As with anything in life, you have to continue evolving with the times to stay relevant and continue to top the list of OTC skincare brands.
That’s why you have people like me. Here to help Break Down the Brand and make, what can seem so daunting, a little easier to understand. Not to mention…when you know what products are actually intended to do, you can really hone-in on what you actually need in your routine.
Let’s get started.
2% salicylic acid cleanser
Perfect for blackheads and “bumpy” acne
Use AM if using any type of retinol PM
CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser
4% benzoyl peroxide cleanser
Better for pus-filled pimples
Use AM if using any type of retinol PM
CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum
Gentle retinol serum to help fade acne scars
Helps improve appearance of pores
Mild exfoliant to help smooth skin
CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Serum
Great retinol for “beginner anti-aging” routine
Contains hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
CeraVe Skin Renewing Nightly Exfoliating Treatment
Gylcolic acid serum to help with gentle exfoliation
Smooths texture
Brightens skin
Would not use in combination with Retinol Serum (consider alternating, if desired)
CeraVe Eye Repair Cream vs Skin Renewing Eye Cream
Even this one is tough for me….
Both contain hyaluronic acid and niacinamide
Both great for puffy, tired-looking eyes
Skin Renewing contains peptide complex + caffeine
In general, I think of the Eye Repair Cream (blue top) as more of a “beginner” option and the Skin Renewing Eye Cream (purple) top for more “advanced” anti-aging needs.
Believe it or not, there are actually quite a few more products. Fortunately, those tend to be a little easier to understand.
Once again, CeraVe really hit it out of the park with these. However, the secret to skincare is knowing how to edit.
All might be great but not great for all.
