Money-Saving Skincare Tips

Holy smokes. It’s been a hot second since I’ve done one of these, so thanks for sticking with me! I’ve really started to appreciate the motto “Quality over Quantity”, so I don’t want to give you content that I wouldn’t enjoy reading. Anyways, I digress. Onto the topic.

The number #1 complaint I hear, and also believe myself, about quality skincare routines is the COST. Not to mention, spending all of your hard-earned money on products that don’t do a DARN thing. Frustrating is an understatement.

So, I bring to you my top tips to save a little money on your skincare routine.

  1. Skip the Tools

    • I was at Target recently and came across an entire WALL dedicated to Skincare Tools. I knew they were popular but an ENTIRE WALL?!?!? Give me a break.

    • Rollers, cleansing brushes, “facial toning device” (what does that even mean?), etc.. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve dabbled in the Jade Rolling and Gua Sha Stone world and didn’t hate it, but did it really amplify my routine to rationalize the cost…probably not.

    • Sure, if you have a Clarisonic, I wouldn’t NOT use it because of this post. But, certainly don’t run out and purchase one.

  2. Ditch the toner

    • In all honesty, I’m still kind of unsure what a toner is actually doing. Apparently, they are SUPPOSED to “shrink pores” and “collect residual debris/makeup”, but I’m not completely sold.

    • Again, if you use one, fine, but, definitely something that can be skipped!

  3. Keep the basics BASIC

    • I’m talking cleanser and moisturizer. Especially if you have other skincare products in your routine, your cleanser and moisturizer function to do exactly that…CLEANSE and MOISTURIZE.

    • You can still have a complex, luxurious skincare routine and use Cerave, Cetaphil, Neutrogena, Aveeno, or La RochePosay to wash and moisturize!

  4. Use only products that you NEED

    • I understand that some people might not know what that is. In this case, schedule a product consultation with a professional to assess your skin BEFORE running out and buying up the entire skincare section of Target.

    • If you know your skin well enough to know your problem areas, cater your routine to those and ONLY THOSE.

    • In other words, if brightening is not a concern of yours, chances are, you can skip the vitamin C serum. If the texture of your skin doesn’t bother you, hold off on glycolic acid. Not acne-prone? Step away from the salicylic acid.

    • Cleanser, moisturizer, and SUNSCREEN are really the only non-negotiable parts of a complete skincare routine.

  5. Pass on masks and peels

    • Again, another section I’ve fallen victim to at Target.

    • Facial masks. Eye peels. Fun to do on a girls night every now and again but certainly not a consistent must in a skincare routine.

    • Not to mention, with so many different options, how do you know which ones are good? Avoid wasting money on a dud and skip them altogether.

Whether you’re desperate for improvement, don’t know where to start, or just love dropping money at Target, skincare routines can eat up A LOT of your paycheck. Hopefully, these tips will help you save a little on your routine so you can treat yo self somewhere else.

-xoxo
