Take a Pic….

“I wish you could have seen my acne yesterday.”

“I’m using the white cream in the morning and the other white cream at night but I don’t know their names.”

“I had a rash two weeks ago when I scheduled the appointment, but it went away.”

Technology has it’s flaws; however, here’s the perfect opportunity where it comes in handy. Thanks to our handy dandy smart phones and devices, taking pictures has become a quick, effective approach at solving all of the above issues.

Never be embarrassed of snapping a selfie of your acne when it’s bad or your rash when it’s flared.

Medications are confusing. The long names. Similar appearance. It’s like they want you to fail. Taking a pic of what you’re using not only helps you remember but provides clarity to your provider.

Tips for taking a good pic:

  1. Lighting is everything.

    • Make sure you’re in a well-lit room.

  2. Not too close.

    • A super, blurry, ultra-close up view of a red dot is not an accurate representation of your rash. Hold the camera far enough away from the area so we can actually tell what we’re looking at.

  3. Can you read the name?

    • Make sure the names of your medications are eligible. Know how and when you’re using said medication.

  4. Have quick access.

    • Providing pictures is great. However, not everyone will give you 2 minutes to search through your photo history to find them. Have them ready to go for your appointment!

Dermatology is a very visual field. Using pictures can often aid in making a diagnosis or better understand what treatments will be best.

Happy selfie-ing:)!!
