Turning Bad Habits >Good

Trends. Habits. Call them what you wish. Skincare seems like it’s more popular than ever right now.

Perhaps because Covid has us stuck at home a little more and maybe we’re looking at ourselves closer/longer than before?

Maybe you’ve started a new career path and are more concerned with personal appearance?

Or, I guess you could have been swimming in the skincare pool for awhile now but no one ever told you right from wrong?

Whatever your reason, good for you! Skincare is fun, but boy can it take a turn for the worse if done incorrectly.

Check out these 4 common skincare mistakes.

  1. Makeup Wipes

    • Convenient? Yes. Filled with loads of chemicals that aren’t great for your skin? You bet.

    • Instead, consider using the up-and-coming Micellar Water for removing your makeup. This is gentle and helps dissolve even the peskiest eye makeup to leave you with clean, bedtime-ready skin.

    • Not a brand snob on this. La RochePosay and Cetaphil both have micellar options but I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t use the Target brand. :)

  2. Neosporin

    • Someone is going to be mad at me for this because their grandma swears by it, but Neosporin is a VERY common cause of contact dermatitis (i.e. You get a cut, slather it on, and call us in the morning because said cut is now infected. Likely just a raging allergic reaction.)

    • Moreso, your common cut or scrape is likely not “infected”, so usually doesn’t require an antibiotic ointment. If you think it is (it’s red, painful, and warm to the touch), you should seek medical evaluation asap.

    • Instead of Neosporin, use Aquafor or Vaseline to aid in the healing.

  3. Plucking facial hair

    • No, we don’t expect you to live with it. However, plucking facial hair increases the chance of developing ingrown hairs and irritation.

    • Believe it or not, shaving is actually the preference when it comes to facial hair (unless you choose to have it removed via laser).

    • Contrary to popular belief, shaving will NOT make the hair grow back thicker or darker. Does your leg hair do that? Exactly.

    • Schick has a 3-pack of facial razors available on amazon that I, quite frankly, swear by. They are fool-proof and great to keep in your bathroom, purse, car, desk drawer….basically anywhere!

  4. Tanning oil

    • I received a question recently about my favorite tanning oil.

    • No, not self-tanning drops or oils. Legit, my favorite oil for getting TAN.

    • I’m not mad at the question because, although I thought it was a joke, it was very sincere.

    • But holy smokes, people. Why the HECK are we still using tanning oils? There is no such thing as a “healthy tan” (unless it came in a bottle or can). Pale is the NEW TAN.

    • So, unfortunately, I don’t have a favorite…and you shouldn’t either. :)

Stay tuned. You’d be surprised what else is on the list!
